Inter president Massimo Moratti has hailed the influence of head coach Claudio Ranieri in the wake of his side’s 1-0 Serie A win over AC Milan.

The 2010 Champions League winners bagged the full three points in the derby following a solitary Diego Milito strike after the interval, and Moratti was thrilled to get one over their cross-town rivals.

“The result is certainly a reward for Ranieri’s work and effort. He’s picked the team up again. Ranieri’s a wise man,” Moratti told Sky Sport Italia.

“He knows how to get his ideas across to the players and how to get them behind him and earn their confidence.”

The Inter president then went on to discuss the performances of Javier Zanetti and Milito, and expressed his admiration for the duo’s display.

“This was the most important match and I think the team responded well,” he said. “I was impressed by their character and especially by Zanetti – he runs around like a kid. Milito is back to his lethal form of old.”

“Credit to these lads, who have shown fantastic character. I didn’t really believe it that much myself when we were fifth from bottom; in times like that you live in hope.”

“But credit where it’s due for coming out of such a bad situation so convincingly.”

Inter currently sit fifth on the Serie A table with 32 points from 18 games, trailing table-toppers Juventus by six points.
