Morrison: West Brom are due a big result

West Brom midfielder James Morrison has claimed the club are “due a big result” ahead of their meeting with Manchester City.

Steve Clarke’s side have never won at the Etihad Stadium and face a City team who have lost just once at home all season – a 3-2 reverse at the hands of champions Manchester United – on Tuesday.

But Morrison says his team-mates are excited by the challenge facing them.

“Obviously, it will be really tough game,” he told the club’s official website. “All we can do is go there and enjoy it.

“We’re looking forward to testing ourselves against some top players. We’ll go there with confidence as our away form has picked up recently.

“We’ll be looking to upset them. The best moments are when you beat a top-quality side. The gaffer has said that we-re due a big result and hopefully we can get that (against Manchester City).”

West Brom have already surpassed their highest Premier League points total this season, a fact Morrison puts down to the work ethic among the squad.

“It has been a great season,” Morrison added. “We’ve broken loads of records which we might not have thought we would do during pre-season.

“It’s credit to the boys, the head coach and the fans that we have been able to do that. It shows what a good job we’ve done that some people might have thought we were going to struggle to better last season.

“It’s been a lot of hard work. There have been lots of ups and downs which you always have over the course of a season.

“The lads have produced when we have needed it.”

Roberto Mancini could pick a weakened team for the game with an FA Cup final meeting with Wigan coming just four days later.

But the Scotland international expects a testing game even if City do select a much-changed team.

“I doubt they’ll be too distracted by the cup final,” he said. “They’ll probably put a good team out who won’t feature in the final – but they’ll still have an amazing team.
“It just shows what a good side they are that they are able to do that. It’s good that we can play our next game almost immediately after the Wigan game.”
