Moyes praises Cahill´s goal

David Moyes said Tim Cahill’s drought-breaking goal in Saturday’s 1-1 league draw with Blackburn had been coming.

The 32-year-old Socceroos midfielder had not scored since December 2010 before sliding home from close range to give Everton the lead against Rovers.

Cahill’s team-mates raced to celebrate with the Australian after the goal, which clearly meant a lot after his long frustrating wait.

Moyes told reporters after the game that he had faith Cahill would end his goalless run after good recent form.

“He’s been playing well in recent weeks. He’s looking more likely to score and I can see that in the way he’s been training and the way he plays the games,” Moyes said.

Cahill did appear to be back to his best for Everton, supporting Louis Saha throughout the match and proving threatening with another chance going narrowly over the bar.

However, Rovers boss Steve Kean felt his side dealt with Cahill’s threat well.

“I said to the lads at half time we didn’t need to change too much because I felt we were dictating the play and minimising the threat of Tim Cahill pushing on,” Kean said.
