Napoli and Inter battle for Simone Verdi

La Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that Napoli and Inter Milan are locked in the battle for Bologna forward Simone Verdi.

The 25-year-old has generated a great deal of interest from top Italian sides with his performances this season, producing 8 goals and 9 assists in 30 Serie A appearances.

Napoli even managed to reach an agreement with Bologna for a January transfer, but the player ultimately opted against moving clubs midway through the season.

Some media pundits believe that the interest from Inter Milan was the reason why Verdi rejected the Azzurri as he would probably have a better chance of nailing down a regular starting berth at Stadio San Siro.

However, recent tweet the forward sent to congratulate Napoli on the all-important triumph over Juventus may suggest Verdi still hasn’t closed the door on the Stadio San Paolo move.
