Neill: Australia will go all out

Lucas Neill says Australia will be doing Saudi Arabia no favours when the teams meet in 2014 World Cup qualifying on Wednesday.

Neill’s Socceroos side lead Asian qualifying Group D by six points, and are already guaranteed a place in the final round.

The second spot remains open to any of Saudi Arabia, who are second on six points, Oman (five) and Thailand (four).

The Saudi team may have been hoping to take advantage of Australia’s comfortable situation when the teams clash at AAMI Park, Melbourne.

But Socceroos skipper Neill is adamant his team will be going all out as they seek to finish the stage on a high note.

“Regardless of whether they (Saudi Arabia) are first, second, third or fourth in the group, we want to win the game,” Neill said.

“And if that then means that they’re the victims of us winning and them losing, then that’s the way it is.”

“But it could be any of the other teams we’re playing against for the same situation, so we don’t concentrate on who we’re going to play in the next round, we concentrate on winning this one and only the draw will decide who we get in the next round.”

“Regardless, it’s going to be a tough draw; whether it be Saudi, Thailand, Oman, Qatar.”

“Bahrain, Jordan – I could go through them all if you want – it’s not important. It’s important that Australia wins and whoever loses as a result. We have to take each game as it comes.”
