Christian Nerlinger believes that Bayern Munich can forget about their title challenge for now after Saturday’s defeat by Bayer Leverkusen.
The Bavarians have now failed to win any of their past three games on the road in all competitions and have fallen seven points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga standings.
And while Nerlinger feels that Bayern were unlucky to lose at the BayArena, he believes that they have some serious issues to address before they can start thinking about winning the league again and must simply focus their attention on arresting their dismal away form.
“We’re deeply disappointed,” the club’s general manager said.
“In the first half, we made enough chances for three games. We have to take one of those chances, it would have completely changed the course of the match.”
“We were too impatient in the second half; we wanted to win it by force. We lost our shape and gave Leverkusen space to counterattack – which they did twice.”
“There can be no complaints today about our determination and desire. (But) today we won’t be talking about winning the league.”
“I’m not writing off the title, but it’s not something which need concern us now. Somehow, we have to get a grip on our weakness away from home.”
Bayern’s next Bundesliga outing comes against Hoffenheim at the Allianz Arena next Saturday.
