Neuer completes Bayern move

Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has officially signed with Bayern Munich after completing a medical on Wednesday.

The former Schalke shot-stopper signed a five-year deal with the Bavarian giants after returning from international duty with the German national team in Azerbaijan.

Bayern had to battle English Premier League champions Manchester United for Neuer’s signature, but the 26-year-old said he never considered a move away from his homeland.

“I feel this is the right move because I am the Germany goalkeeper and Bayern Munich is the best club in Germany,” he told Bayern Munich’s official website.

“I’m glad that everything is now behind me. I am looking forward to this challenge, the first training sessions and training camps.”

New boss Jupp Heynckes will be hoping Neuer and fellow signing Rafinha will be able to help reverse Bayern’s form this season after slow start last campaign saw them finish second behind Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

And Neuer said he is looking forward to the challenge of playing for Germany’s biggest club.

“I know definitely what I want,” he said. “I look forward to these five years. I know Munich and I think I will feel comfortable here. I know this is not normal for me, this is all new territory. But I look forward to it.”
