Newcastle's controversial player Joey Barton is the target of legal action by a second victim of his violence, lawyers revealed Wednesday.

Court officials confirmed that Barton has been served with a claim from Jordan Spencer which will be dealt with on November 7 at Liverpool County Court.

Barton has already been ordered to pay compensation to Spencer who he attacked in the early hours of December 27 outside a Liverpool city centre McDonald's. Lawyers for Spencer are claiming the payment was insufficient.

Only last week solicitors for footballer Jamie Tandy, 23, confirmed he was suing Barton for allegedly wrecking his playing career by stubbing a lit cigar in his face.

Tandy was a trainee with Manchester City at the time when Barton — who was a senior player and emerging star — attacked him during the 2004 Christmas party.

Mr Tandy claims he suffered a “major psychiatric deterioration.”

The player, who admitted the offence and later admitted another attack on former colleague Ousmane Dabo, was jailed for six months for the assault.

The 25-year-old midfielder is currently serving a suspended sentence for the training ground bust-up with team-mate Dabo, 31, who is now playing with Lazio in Italy.
