Villarreal striker Nilmar has played down the possibility of moving to Serie A outfit Roma in the January transfer window.
The 27-year-old was reportedly Roma’s priority for the January transfer window, with coach Luis Enrique believed to be keen to bolster his side’s attacking options.
Nilmar’s agent suggested in December that a deal was likely, but the Brazilian striker has now guaranteed that he is not leaving the La Liga strugglers.
“I was a bit off during my vacation, although my situation was talked about in Brazil a lot,” Nilmar – scorer of two goals in 12 appearances this campaign – told Marca.
“This is something normal, since this is the transfer window, but I have made it clear I am fine here, that I did not want to leave and that is what happened.”
“I want to help the team in the second half of the season.”
Fourth last term, Villarreal sit 17th in the La Liga standings, with 15 points from 16 matches. With new coach Jose Molina at the helm, they host Valencia on Sunday.
