Ange Postecoglou conceded Tottenham were “nowhere near good enough” in their north London derby defeat by Arsenal.

Spurs were beaten 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium after the Gunners came from behind to achieve the Premier League double over their bitter rivals.

Tottenham, who took an early lead through Son Heung-min, have now lost 18 points from winning positions this season, with only Fulham (19) having lost more.

The result left them 13th in the Premier League table and without a victory in five league games, while they have now failed to win any of their last six meetings with Arsenal.

And Postecoglou could not hide the disappointment he felt in his team.

“Nowhere near good enough, especially in the first half,” he told TNT Sports. “We were too passive. We let Arsenal dictate the game.

“The second half was a little better, but nowhere near good enough. Not acceptable.

“Ultimately, the responsibility lies with me and how I prepare the players. I’m more interested in how we play, and we were not anywhere near the levels today.

“Of course, they [defeats] hurt me. Not acceptable. Too many losses this year. Too many games getting away from us. It needs to stop.”

Son concurred with his head coach after his opener was cancelled out by Dominic Solanke’s own goal, before Leandro Trossard struck the winner for the hosts.

“Very disappointing,” the Spurs skipper added. “This game means a lot to the club and fans.

“The manager is right. We were too passive. We always want to press and play as high up as possible. The first half was not good enough.

“It’s up to the players as well. You have to listen to what we want to do. I think we were not disciplined enough. We have to do better in every aspect. When you look at the table, it’s not good enough.”
