Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill has refuted reports that attacking midfielder Stephane Sessegnon is unhappy on Wearside.

The 27-year-old has been in impressive form this season, scoring seven goals in the Premier League as well as providing nine assists.

But recent reports have suggested that the Benin international wants to move back to former club Paris Saint-Germain.

Sessegnon’s family still reside in the French capital but his manager insists that he would not maintain his high level of performance if he was unsettled at the Stadium of Light.

“I have read he’s unhappy the whole time, but he couldn’t be happier, believe it or not. I don’t think he can play like that if he’s unhappy,” O’Neill told The Newcastle Journal.

“He’s in great form and I’m sure I won’t stop the speculation no matter what I try. We want to keep him at the football club because he’s been pretty brilliant.”

Since joining the Black Cats from PSG in January 2011, Sessegnon has made 51 appearances, scoring 11 goals.
