Kenneth Omeruo has expressed his relief after Nigeria fought back to claim a dramatic 1-1 draw at home to Kenya in World Cup qualifying.

Kenya led through Francis Kahata’s goal in the 36th minute of the match at U.J. Esuene Stadium, and the visitors looked on track for an upset victory.

That was until substitute Nnamdi Oduamadi scored a crucial equaliser three minutes into injury time in Calabar.

Omeruo, 19, was making just his eighth start for the national team.

And despite Nigeria only narrowly avoiding what would have been a damaging defeat, the ADO Den Haag player was satisfied with his performance.

“It showed I’m gradually finding my bearing in the (Super) Eagles (team),” Omeruo said.

“I will continue to get better.

“It was a very tough match but I’m happy we got something from a very difficult situation.”

Oduamadi meanwhile expressed his relief at salvaging something for the clash.

“We were not fortunate today but lucky it didn’t end in defeat,” he said.

The draw means Nigeria lead Group F, level on five points with Malawi and two points ahead of third-placed Namibia.
