Palmeiras teenager Luiz Gustavo Benedetti attracts attention across Europe

Arsenal, Napoli and Barcelona are all monitoring Palmeiras’ teenage defender Luiz Gustavo Benedetti, according to Mundo Deportivo. The report from the Spanish outlet is understandably focused on Barcelona’s interest, simply stating that the Catalan club face competition from the Gunners and the Partenopei in case they decide to pursue a deal for the 19-year-old.

The departure of Inigo Martinez to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr this summer has left Hansi Flick’s squad without a left-footed centre-back, and that’s exactly what Benedetti is. Furthermore, given his age, the young Brazilian is considered a candidate to fulfill that role for the foreseeable future at the Nou Camp.

The two clubs would, however, have to reach an agreement, with Palmerias valuing the player at €15million and Barcelona willing to set aside the sum of €12million at this point. With four and a half years remaining on his contract, Palmeiras are obviously in a very strong position for any negotiations that might take place in the coming months.
