Parker convinced of Spurs quality

Scott Parker believes Tottenham can challenge for honours this season after impressively beating QPR 3-1 on Sunday.

Speaking after Spurs’ victory at White Hart Lane – moving them to fifth on the English Premier League table and stretching their unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions – the off-season signing from West Ham said the club is ready to be successful.

“We’ve been saying it for a little while now but this squad can go places this year, and if we believe in ourselves we can go far and I’m really looking forward to rest of the season,” the England midfielder said.

Spurs produced a scintillating first-half performance against QPR, and Parker was not surprised by their free-flowing game given the calibre of the club’s players.

“When you’re playing with players like Gareth (Bale), Luka (Modric), Rafa (Van der Vaart) and everyone today it’s fantastic to play and winning games is obviously very nice,” he said.

“We played really good football and at the end there we killed the game off with a great finish from Gareth, which was pleasing.”

Bale, who hit a brace in the win, is equally confident the team can continue to improve this season.

“The confidence is growing. Ee didn’t get off to the best of starts to the season but, playing both Manchester teams, you can see why. But we’ve been playing well and gaining confidence,” he said.
