Former North Queensland striker Chris Payne has left Newcastle after managing just one match since joining the Jets at the start of the season.

The 21-year-old spent just nine minutes on the pitch in his only 2011/12 appearance for Newcastle, after being brought on as a substitute against Sydney FC on December 17.

Payne was recruited by Newcastle after playing 21 games and scoring four goals for the now-defunct Fury last season.

“I am disappointed that due to a change in circumstances at Newcastle that my time at the club has been cut short and has not worked out the way that I planned,” Payne said.

“I want to wish the rest of the boys in the squad all the best, and I will now look to further my career at a new club and achieve my goals as I have a lot of ambition and can hopefully fulfil it with a new team.”

Payne also spent two years with Sydney FC from 2008/10 where he played 19 matches and scored three goals.
