Former Argentina coach Jose Pekerman has become favourite to take the coaching reins of the Colombian national team.
Caracol revealed that the president of the Colombian FA, Luis Bedoya, met with the coach’s agent in Bogota on Tuesday, where the pair discussed the possibility of hiring Pekerman as the successor to Leonel Alvarez.
“I had an invitation to hear (Bedoya’s) proposal and in the next few days we will continue talking,” Pakerman’s agent, Pascual Lezano, said.
Bedoya believes Pakerman is a strong candidate for the position.
“He is a great coach and it would be great for the Colombian federation to count on his services,” he said.
Pekerman is renowned for his success at youth level; he led the Argentina under-20 side to three Youth World Cups as well as two South American Championships.
He took over the senior team in 2004, but resigned following a quarter-final exit to Germany in the 2006 World Cup.
