Jose Peseiro has had his contract terminated as manager of Primeira Liga side Braga.

Peseiro only been at Estadio AXA for one season and led the club to the Taca de Liga title over Porto in April, just the second major trophy in their history.

The 53-year-old also led his side to the group stages of the UEFA Champions League for the second time in Braga’s history, where they finished bottom of Group H, below Manchester United, Galatasaray and Cluj.

They had looked set for a shock early in their European campaign, holding a 2-0 lead at Old Trafford, although they went on to lose 3-2.

A statement on Braga’s website read: “SC Braga appreciates all work and professionalism of Jose Peseiro and the respective technical team for services rendered during the period 2012-13.

“Following what has been the sustained growth and success of the club in recent years, Jose Peseiro will be part of another page of successes for SC Braga.”

Peseiro was able to secure UEFA Europa League football for next season after finishing two points behind Pacos de Ferreira in third place.
