Valencia attacker Pablo Piatti is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after breaking his arm in a freak training ground accident.

The injury occurred during a game of football tennis, when Piatti attempted an overhead kick and landed awkwardly.

The 23-year-old left the training field in anguish and is set to miss at least two months, the La Liga giants said on Friday.

“Piatti is going to remain in hospital for the next 48 hours and, save any complications, will be discharged after this period,” a statement from the club read.

“Due to the precaution needed in these cases, the estimated recovery period is between eight and 10 weeks.”

Piatti becomes the latest Valencia player to suffer a bizarre injury while at the club.

Ever Banega broke his fibula after failing to apply the handbrake on his car in February, while former goalkeeper Santiago Canizares severed a tendon in his foot after dropping a bottle of aftershave on it, an injury that ruled him out of the 2002 World Cup.
