Former Sydney FC target Robert Pires says he would be interested in a move to Australia’s A-League.

The 38-year-old ex-Arsenal, Villarreal and Aston Villa midfielder was chased by the Sky Blues two years ago but opted to stay in Europe at the time.

However, the clubless former France international told Fox Sports he would entertain a move to Australia now.

“Why not? It’s a great country,” Pires said. “If I go to Australia it’s a new experience, a new challenge.”

On his previous proposed move to Sydney, he added: “At that moment I preferred to stay in Europe. Now, if I have an opportunity with Australia I need to think about it.”

Pires has been without a club since being released by English Premier League outfit Aston Villa at the end of the 2010-11 season.
