Plasil proud as Bordeaux reach Coupe de France final

Bordeaux midfielder Jaroslav Plasil was delighted his side have booked their place in the Coupe de France final with a win over Troyes.

After going a goal behind in the semi-final, Bordeaux mounted a second-half comeback to book their first final appearance since 1987.

Jean-Christophe Bahebeck scored for Troyes in the seventh minute and Francis Gillot’s men struggled to get into the game, but a goal from Cheick Diabate just before half-time levelled the scores and after the break Bordeaux were able to push for the victory.

The winning goal came on 63 minutes when Jeremie Brechet put the ball past his own goalkeeper, and Plasil was proud of their comeback to reach the final.

“It’s a relief,” he said. “We knew that Troyes are a good team at home who play very fast.

“We have seen it during the first half. We have been able to correct our mistakes and we have qualified.

is great for the club. It has not happened for a long time. The fans can go to Paris and enjoy this big game.”

Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis Triaud was proud of his side’s achivement and insisted he was never worried given their history in the competition.

“We have played all our cup games from behind,” he said. “We have always been behind in the scores.

“Every time, we have had to come back. Every time it was difficult to finish the game because we had to defend.

“But we have been serious, we fought and we have been able to protect the result. The team will play this final in Paris. The goal has been achieved.”

Bordeaux will go in search of their first cup triumph in 26 years when they play Evian in the final on 31 May at Stade de France.
