Pochettino vows to attack Arsenal

Mauricio Pochettino insists his side will not be overawed by Arsenal and has vowed to attack at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

Earlier in the season they were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates as Olivier Giroud scored twice to take all three points.

That defeat was the start of Southampton’s slide down the table, and their record against sides in the top half of the table is not impressive.

They have only taken six points from a possible 27 against teams currently above them in the league, but Pochettino does not intend to change his plan of attack.

The Argentine refused to discuss Daniel Pablo Osvaldo’s suspension for a training-ground incident, instead choosing to focus on the task in hand.

“He (Osvaldo) is suspended and there’s nothing more to comment on that,” he said. “We have to focus on tomorrow’s game.

“Arsenal have a great structure and great footballers, that’s allowed them to be up there fighting for the title.

“We will try to win the game. One of our strengths is that we believe we can win every game. We will attack.”

Southampton – ninth in the Premier League – are unbeaten in their last two league matches but have not beaten Arsenal since 2002.
