Premier League rivals Fulham and Newcastle United will lock horns with each other in the fourth round of the FA Cup next weekend. The match between the Cottagers and the Magpies will be held at Craven Cottage in London and is scheduled to kick off at 7 pm UK time next Saturday.

Fulham

Fulham are not having the best of seasons at the moment. The Cottagers did extremely well last season and were at one point looking like they could push for the top four of the Premier League table. Fans would have expected the London club to kick on this time around, but things have not been great.

Marco Silva’s side are as low as 13th in the Premier League table at the moment with 24 points from 21 matches. The London club are eight points above the relegation zone and are eight points behind seventh-placed Brighton and Hove Albion.

Fulham will take on Premier League rivals Liverpool at Craven Cottage in London in the second leg of the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. They lost the first leg 2-1 at Anfield.

Team News:

Fulham are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Bernd Leno will be in goal for the London club. Kenny Tete, Tosin Adarabioyo, Issa Diop and Antonee Robinson will be the four defenders and will have Joao Palhinha and Tom Cairney will be the two holding midfielders. Harry Wilson, Andreas Pereira and Willian will be the three attacking midfielders. Raul Jimenez will lead the line for the Cottagers.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United finished in the top four of the Premier League table last season and played in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League this campaign. The Magpies were expected to kick on this season, but they are struggling to match their success of the last campaign.

Eddie Howe’s side are 10th in the Premier League table at the moment with 29 points from 21 matches. Newcastle are 14 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa and are unlikely to get into the top four.

Newcastle will head into the fourth round of the FA Cup against Fulham on the back of a 3-2 defeat to Manchester City at St. James’ Park in the Premier League. It came after a 3-0 victory over Sunderland away from home at the Stadium of Light in the third round of the FA Cup.

Team News:

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe is likely to line up in a 4-3-3 formation. Martin Dubravka will be in goal for the home team. Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman and Dan Burn will be the four defenders. Lewis Miley, Bruno  Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff will be the three midfielders. Miguel Almiron, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon will be the three forwards.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Bobby De Cordova-Reid has scored 5 goals and given 2 assists in 25 matches in all competitions for Fulham.
  • Willian has scored 5 goals and given 1 assist in 21 matches in all competitions for Fulham.
  • Alexander Isak has scored 14 goals in 23 games in all competitions for Newcastle United.
  • Callum Wilson has scored 8 goals and provided 1 assist in 20 matches in all competitions for Newcastle United.
  • Newcastle United have lost their last 4 Premier League games.

Conclusion

Neither Fulham nor Newcastle United have been particularly great this season, and neither are in brilliant form at the moment. This is not going to be one of the best matches to watch. It is very likely that a single goal will settle the affair. Newcastle have a better team than Fulham and could just about edge it.

Prediction: Newcastle United to win 1-0
