Germany and Romania will face each other in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification this week. The UEFA Group J game will be held at Volksparkstadion in Hamburg and is scheduled to kick off at 7:45am on Friday.

Germany

As expected, Germany are doing extremely well in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign. Hansi Flick’s side are at the top of Group J with 15 points from six matches, four points ahead of second-placed Armenia.

Germany won their last qualifying game 4-0 against Iceland away from home. It followed a 6-0 hammering of Armenia in Stuttgart.

Team News:

Robin Gosens is out due to injury, which means that Thilo Kehrer is likely to start at left-back.

Romania

Romania are unlikely to win Group J, but they are certainly in the race for the runners-up spot, which will earn them a place in the next round of qualifying campaign. Mirel Radoi’s side are third in the group at the moment with 10 points from six matches, just a point behind second-placed Armenia.

Radoi’s Romania team were disappointing in their last qualifying game, playing out a goalless draw with North Macedonia away from home. It followed a 2-0 home win against Liechtenstein.

Team News:

Midfielder Dragos Nedelcu is suspended for the match.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Germany have scored 17 goals in six qualifying games.
  • Germany have conceded 2 goals in six qualifying games.
  • Romania have scored nine goals in six qualifying matches.
  • Romania have conceded six goals in six qualifying matches.
  • Germany beat Romania 1-0 in March.

Conclusion

Romania are not going to make it easy for Germany, but it is hard to see anything other than a home win.
