Third meets bottom in gameweek six of the 2025/26 Premier League, as Tottenham Hotspur welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to North London on Saturday night.

Both teams enter the contest on the back of midweek Carabao Cup victories, with Spurs easing past Doncaster Rovers and Vitor Pereira’s Wolves restoring some pride by knocking Everton out of the competition.

Tottenham Hotspur

Silverware has eluded Tottenham since lifting the League Cup in 2008, but their latest attempt to end that drought began with minimal fuss. Thomas Frank’s men barely broke sweat in dispatching Doncaster 3-0, thanks to goals from Joao Palhinha, Brennan Johnson and an own goal.

The Dane has settled quickly into his new surroundings, guiding Spurs to three wins and a draw from his last four matches in all competitions. That draw came in spirited fashion too, as Tottenham fought back from 2-0 down to claim a 2-2 share with Brighton – a result which kept them level on points with Arsenal, behind only on goal difference.

Frank’s return of 10 points from five league games already doubles Ange Postecoglou’s tally across his final 12 in charge, while Spurs also adjust to life after Daniel Levy. For all the upheaval, home form against struggling teams has been a constant: Tottenham are unbeaten in 15 league matches at home against bottom-placed opposition, winning 12.

Team News

Tottenham could be boosted by the return of several players. Dominic Solanke is back in training and may rejoin the squad, while Kota Takai, Randal Kolo Muani and Ben Davies are also nearing comebacks. However, Radu Dragusin, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Yves Bissouma remain absent.

Even if Solanke and Kolo Muani feature, Richarlison is expected to lead the line. The Brazilian boasts six Premier League goals against Wolves – his joint-best tally against any club.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves fans might cling to the quirk that Spurs’ last five defeats to bottom-placed sides have all come against teams beginning with “W”. Beyond such coincidences, their EFL Cup win over Everton provided a much-needed lift. Marshall Munetsi and Tolu Arokodare struck in a 2-0 triumph to set up a fourth-round tie.

Yet the league tells a harsher story. Pereira’s men sit bottom, the only side to lose all five opening fixtures. Only Portsmouth, Crystal Palace and Norwich City have ever lost their first six Premier League games of a season, and Wolves now risk joining that unwanted company.

Compounding matters, should Wolves trail at the break, it would be the 10th consecutive top-flight game they have been behind at half-time – an unprecedented statistic. Still, they have enjoyed remarkable success against Tottenham of late, winning four of the last five meetings and remaining unbeaten since August 2022, when Harry Kane hit his 250th Spurs goal.

Team News

The win at Goodison Park did carry a cost, with midfielder Andre picking up a calf problem that makes him doubtful. Leon Chiwome is still sidelined with a knee injury. Should Andre fail to make it, Munetsi is likely to step in from the outset.

Arokodare’s deft finish against Everton also strengthens his claim to start up front, possibly ahead of Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Conclusion

Wolves’ strong recent record over Spurs is impressive, but current form paints a starkly different picture.

Tottenham have outperformed their Expected Goals by almost four this season – second only to Liverpool – and with their attacking depth and home advantage, Frank’s side should record another emphatic victory to keep pace at the top.

Verdict: Home win

Best odds: 9/20
