Premier League surprise packets Newcastle will look to keep their strong start to the season going on Saturday when they visit struggling Everton.

Alan Pardew’s men sit in third position after 10 games of the 2011/12 season as one of only two unbeaten sides left in the competition, the other being leaders Manchester City.

In their most recent league outing a hat-trick from Senegal international Demba Ba helped them to a 3-1 win over Stoke at Britannia Stadium on Monday.

Everton have struggled for consistency this term, and were on the receiving end of a 1-0 loss at home to Manchester United on Saturday.

David Moyes’ men find themselves just four points outside the relegation zone in 16th place, but they have played one game fewer than those teams around them.

Both managers have some troubling news from their fitness staff to contend with ahead of the St James’ Park clash, with Moyes the worst hit.

Veteran defender Phil Neville has been struggling to overcome a hamstring complaint, while Australian midfielder Tim Cahill is nursing a groin problem.

Victor Anichebe is also hampered by a groin injury and Sylvain Distin is another under a fitness cloud.

Impressive 17-year-old midfielder Ross Barkley could be ready for a return to the starting line-up after playing a half against Manchester United on Saturday.

Pardew’s squad is in better health, but he could again be without key midfielder Cheik Tiote, with the Ivorian still bothered by a knee problem.

Sammy Amoebi made a return to the squad after a hamstring strain in the match against Stoke, and will be keen for more game time after coming on for just the last five minutes.
