QPR have contested Shaun Derry’s red card shown during the 2-0 loss to Manchester United on Sunday.
The midfielder was adjudged to have brought down Ashley Young in the Rangers’ area and subsequently a penalty was awarded by referee Lee Mason, which Wayne Rooney scored to put the hosts ahead.
Derry was shown a straight red for the incident, although replays suggested there was very minimal contact between the two players and QPR have now confirmed that they have appealed against the dismissal.
A statement on QPR’s website read: “The club have appealed on the grounds of ‘unfair dismissal’ and the FA have agreed to hear the appeal this afternoon.”
A decision is expected later on Tuesday and should the red card be rescinded, Derry will be available for Wednesday evening’s clash with Swansea City.
