MLS club Colorado Rapids have appointed former Derby County executive Tim Hinchey as their new president.
Hinchey, who had been the Rapids’ chief marketing officer for the past year, served as a vice-president at Derby County FC during the club’s tenure in both the Premier League and Championship, and was also a club director and member of the board.
He also has management experience in the NBA, serving in executive marketing positions with the Charlotte Bobcats, New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets and Maloof Sports & Entertainment, whose properties included Arco Arena and the Sacramento Kings, among others.
“It’s truly an honour to take this role with the Rapids,” Hinchey said in a statement released by the club.
“I want to thank Stan Kroenke, Josh Kroenke and Jim Martin for this opportunity and for their confidence.”
“The Rapids have a great foundation, and I’m looking forward to helping the team build on its recent successes on and off the field.”
“We are only a year removed from an MLS Cup and everyone in the organisation is committed to bringing another championship to Colorado.”
The move continues a busy offseason for the Rapids, who have already parted ways with head coach Gary Smith and managing director Jeff Plush.
