Redknapp: Lack of luck cost Spurs

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes that his side were unlucky to go on a run of five games without a Premier League win.

Spurs’ push to secure third place was seriously harmed after they picked up just two points from a possible 15 in March.

But the 65-year-old Redknapp claims that he was happy with his side’s performances and was pleased to see their efforts finally rewarded with a 3-1 win over Swansea City on Sunday.

“I never felt we played badly, we were just unlucky, we’re playing well and we had a good week with Chelsea, Bolton and Swansea,” Redknapp told the club’s official website.

“I’ve been at clubs where the players look like their confidence has gone, but this lot have been fantastic, knocking the ball around in training and I just felt we were playing well and needed a little luck. I never had any doubts.”

Although conceding his disappointment at seeing north London rivals Arsenal leapfrog his side into third, the White Hart Lane boss insisted that the club’s main aim is simply to secure Champions League football.

“The key is finishing above Chelsea and Newcastle as well,” he said.

“Four teams are scrapping it out and there’s not a lot in it with seven games to go, us and Arsenal level, five points to Chelsea and Newcastle.

“Now we play Saturday and Monday, a long trip up to Sunderland, Norwich at home – two tough games. Everyone will be juggling their resources. It will be the survival of the fittest.”

Tottenham face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Friday.
