QPR manager Harry Redknapp has lauded Ravel Morrison following the player's man-of-the-match performance against Birmingham City on Saturday.

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has lauded on-loan England youth international midfielder Ravel Morrison, while revealing he has followed the player since he was 12 years old.

Morrison, who joined QPR on loan from West Ham United last month, left Manchester for East London in January 2012.

The England Under-21 ace has turned in a number of eye-catching performances, for both West Ham and QPR, this term.

Morrison bagged a match-winning brace against Birmingham City on Saturday, and was subsequently likened to Paul Gascoigne by opposing manager Lee Clark. Redknapp was also full of praise for the 21-year-old.

“What a player he is,” said Redknapp.

“I’ve followed his career from when he was a 12-year-old and what Sir Alex told me. For whatever reason he’s been let go, but we’re glad we’ve got him.

“He’s a real talent and he rode tackles and took his goals well. We wasted opportunities and they were always in the game – but this is a massive win for us.”

Morrison, who was been the subject of interest from a host of English Premier League clubs — including bottom-of-the-table Fulham — in recent weeks, has tallied seven goals and two assists in 25 appearances in all competitions this season.

In other news, Redknapp has urged on-loan Mali forward Modibo Maïga to win his place in the first-team.

“He’s got make me want to pick him,” said the former Tottenham Hotspur boss.

“It’s true he’s from a Premier League club but so is Will Keane, and Kevin Doyle was there with Wolves two years ago.”

Maiga, 26, joined QPR on loan from West Ham on deadline day but has made just three substitute appearances despite scoring against Burnley on his debut.

At the moment, the likes of Kevin Doyle and Will Keane (on loan from Manchester United) are keeping the 26-year-old out of the team.

Dickov wants Bowery stay

Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov has confirmed his interest in keeping on-loan Aston Villa striker Jordan Bowery at the Keepmoat Stadium for the rest of the season.

Bowery, 22, signed for Villa in August 2012 (from Chesterfield) and has since gone on to make 18 appearances in all competitions without a goal for the Villans.

“He has done well over the last month,” said Dickov.

“The more games he gets, and the more time he spends with us, the better.”

Bowery’s last competitive goal came in a League Two match against Rotherham United 27 August 2012.
