Lazio coach Edy Reja said his intention to resign was never certain, as he prepares for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Atletico Madrid.
Reports on Wednesday claimed that the 66-year-old had been knocked back in his attempts to step down as coach, before opting to dismiss the speculation prior to their European commitments against the La Liga side one day later.
However, it is believed that Reja will remain as coach of the Serie A outfit and he took to Italian television to clarify his position.
“I never told the fans my resignation was irrevocable,” Reja told Sky Sport Italia.
Lazio are in fourth spot in Serie A, but must overturn a 3-1 deficit at the Vicente Calderon in order to progress to the last 16 of Europe’s secondary competition.
