Edy Reja has confirmed he will continue in charge of Lazio after club president Claudio Lotito rejected the coach’s resignation.

Reja, 65, was reportedly set to quit following the team’s 2-1 Serie A defeat to Genoa on Sunday, when Lazio fans jeered the former Napoli boss.

But following discussions with Lotito and the players, Reja confirmed at a press conference on Tuesday that he would now be remaining at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I had a meeting with the squad and the president. After some clarifications, we have decided to continue my adventure at Lazio,” Reja said.

“The discomfort is not in working here. The picture is good in Rome, it is just the frame that is rotten.”

“I must not only win, I must win big, and this is cannot be done.”

On Monday, Lotito said he was not prepared to lose Reja’s services.

“I did not accept the resignation and would not let the coach go,” Lotito was quoted as saying by Sky Sport Italia.

“As long as I am the president, the coach will be untouchable. Reja just wanted to express his unhappiness in a city that does not love him.”

Lazio are 13th in Serie A, with one draw and one defeat from two league matches played so far this season.

They are due to visit Cesena on Wednesday.
