Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva insists his team-mates will not be taking their final two Premier League games lightly.
Brendan Rodgers’ side sit 11 points short of Tottenham – who occupy the final European qualification spot – with just six left to play for.
But Lucas believes the squad must use the remaining fixtures to make a case for their inclusion ahead of the transfer window reopening.
“The league position is difficult to change now, but the manager is watching every day in training sessions and games,” he told the club’s official website.
“These two games can be important for the manager to watch us and to have a reflection about the performance and maybe what he wants to keep doing for next season.
“When you play for a club like Liverpool, we will have a lot of support travelling to watch the game so we have to make sure we do the right thing.”
Liverpool have scored 35 goals away from home this season, just two shy of their best-ever total in the Premier League era.
And, though the Brazilian is keen to surpass that mark against Fulham on Sunday, he underlined the importance of finding balance.
“The goals are always important because it means the chance to win games is higher and I think it means we have been good offensively,” he added.
“That’s why we want to find the right balance between defence and attack because that is what makes you a strong team.”
