Loic Remy has played down speculation linking him with a possible switch to Tottenham.

The Marseille forward admits he has spoken with his club’s hierarchy at Stade Velodrome, but concedes any move is a long way off.

For now Remy is happy to help the club – champions of France in 2009-10 – in their efforts to improve upon their current eighth place in Ligue 1, though he admits further talks about his future will be held in due course.

“For now it’s not a reality,” Remy told Telefoot. “I spoke about it with president (Vincent Labrune) and Jose Anigo.”

“Today, the fans really need me because we are in a delicate situation. My future? We will speak about it at the appropriate time.”

In Janauary, Remy’s agent Frederic Guerra admitted the Marseille star would find it hard to turn down a move to Tottenham, while Spurs manager Harry Redknapp embarked on a personal scouting mission to watch Remy in action against Lille at the Stade Velodrome ahead of the close of the transfer window.

Remy, a striker who can also operate on the wings, has been described by Marseille manager Didier Deschamps as “fast and powerful with huge potential”.

The 25-year-old France international began his career with Lyon and enjoyed a spell on loan at Lens before really coming to prominence with Nice between 2008 and 2010. He joined Marseille in August 2010 for a fee in the region of 15 million euros.
