Looking to make another statement on the road and move one step closer to a Champions League spot, Rennes will make the trip to a stalling Lille on Tuesday evening.

Starting with the hosts, while Lille may have managed to bounce back last week by picking up a hard-fought 2-1 win away at Strasbourg, it does not cover what has been a sluggish start to 2020 for Christophe Galtier’s men. Falling away from the Champions League spots after losing three of their last four Ligue 1 appearances, the mood around the Stade Pierre-Mauroy appears to be growing more fragile. Hit with a 2-0 defeat against league leaders PSG in their last matchup on home soil, Tuesday’s hosts should be concerned by their recent issues against the midweek guests. Lille have failed to win any of their previous three matchups against Rennes and have also lost five of the previous seven meetings, recording just a sole victory on that run.

As for the visitors, putting in what was another free-scoring display and picking up three points against Nantes last weekend, Rennes find themselves sat firmly in pole position to secure a top-three finish this year. Losing just a sole Ligue 1 appearance since the 24th of November, the mood in Julien Stéphan’s camp only continues to skyrocket. Holding a six-point buffer from losing their Champions League status, there is no doubt that fans around Roazhon Park will be most impressed by their side’s most recent showings on the road. Including an eye-catching 1-0 win away at Lyon prior to the festive break, Rennes have won three of their last four Ligue 1 away days and they should be confident of making another statement in midweek.
