With the chance to potentially break into the top-four this weekend, away day specialists Rio Ave will make the trip to a struggling Gil Vicente on Sunday evening.

Starting with the hosts, despite bagging a late consolation strike away at Sporting Lisbon last time out, it appears that Gil Vicente’s 3-0 win against rock-bottom Aves was just an ever so minor bounce last month. Continuing to show some glaring issues either side of the break and now losing four of their last five Primeira Liga outings, Head Coach Vítor Oliveira will have a growing headache over his side’s problems on home soil. Aside from the routine victory against an already relegated Aves, Gilistas have failed to win any of their other four appearances at the Estádio Cidade de Barcelos. With that run highlighted by a 3-1 drumming against Famalicão on their return to action, Sunday’s hosts could be in for another tricky test this weekend.

As for the visitors, picking up what was the most dramatic of 4-3 wins against Braga and showing plenty of resolve to come from two goals down, the mood in Rio Ave’s camp should be at a high. Within touching distance of breaking into the European spots and winning three of their last four Primeira Liga outings, former Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal will be most impressed by his side’s stellar record on the road. Along with landing a 3-0 romp the last time they made the trip to Gil Vicente, Rio Ave are remarkably unbeaten on their travels since the start of December. Winning six of their last seven matches on the road and only dropping a pair of points against Porto at the Estádio Do Dragão, Sunday’s guests have collected 27 points on the road this season, the third-best away day record in the Primeira Liga.
