Roma director Bruno Conti says the club once turned down a 70 million euros bid from Chelsea for Daniele De Rossi.

The 28-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Stadio Olimpico after surprisingly claiming that the club could be ‘better off’ without him.

De Rossi’s contract expires at the end of the season, and Roma have been locked in talks with the player regarding an extension.

Conti has maintained that De Rossi will not depart Roma and revealed that in the past, a big-money offer from Chelsea was rejected.

“De Rossi will stay at Roma, no doubt about it,” Conti told Radio Mana Mana.

“I would like to remind people of the following: Chelsea offered 70m euros for him, a lot of money, but (then president) Rosella Sensi turned it down.”

The Italy international, who broke into Roma’s first team in 2001, has made 10 appearances for the club this season.
