Roma sign Wolfsburg flop; Tottenham reignite their interest in Brazilian goal machine

Roma sign Wolfsburg flop

Roma have signed defender Simon Kjaer on loan from Wolfsburg, the German club have revealed.

The Giallorossi have been looking for defensive reinforcements following Philippe Mexes’ departure to Milan and they were repeatedly linked with a move for the Danish centre-back.

The Italian giants seem to have succeeded in their quest as Kjaer has flown to Rome to complete his loan deal from Wolfsburg.

“He is on the way to Roma to sign a contract,” coach Felix Magath told club’s official website.

Roma are thought to have paid €2 million for the loan deal with an option to buy him outright for another €7 million.

The 22-year-old was considered one of the best defenders in Italy when he decided to join Wolfsburg last summer.

However, the Dane proved to be a major flop at Wolfsburg as his defensive mistakes ended up costing the Wolves some precious points.

Kjaer has now been given a chance to kick-start his career in familiar surroundings, and he is expected to form a centre-back pairing with Nicolas Burdisso in Luis Enrique’s side.

Tottenham reignite their interest in Brazilian goal machine

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is weighing up a £16 million move for Internacional striker Leandro Damiao, Daily Mail reports.

Spurs have just completed the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor on loan from Manchester City, but they don’t want to stop there.

Harry Redknapp revealed yesterday that chairman Daniel Levy was working on new transfers and Spurs are expected to table a new bid for Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao.

The North London club have already had £12 million bid for the player’s services rejected, but they believe a new bid will persuade Internacional chiefs to let go of their star player.

Barcelona are another team interested in the player, but they are unlikely to do any more business this summer, having signed Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas.

The 22-year-old striker has only entered the big stage last season, but has attracted a lot of interest from abroad after scoring 15 goals in 33 league games for Internacional.

Martinez: Rodallega is staying

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has moved to deny reports that Hugo Rodallega will leave the club this summer.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has been linked with a late bid for the Colombian, but it looks as though he will have to look elsewhere.

The 26-year-old was expected to leave the club after rejecting a new contract offer from Wigan, but Roberto Martinez is adamant that is not going to happen.

“We would not consider anything,” Martinez was quoted as saying in The Mirror.

“You can’t replace players at this stage of the season.

“If a player is moving for big money they have to go earlier in the summer.

“We would not be in a position to replace him now. It is not possible.”

Rodallega has one year left on his current deal and is likely to be sold in January as Wigan could lose him for free next summer.
