Cristiano Ronaldo is looking a surefire certainty to win the ESM Golden Shoe award this season, but special mention must go to Llanelli AFC striker Rhys Griffiths – the most prolific striker of the 2007/08 season.

Both Ronaldo and Griffiths scored at the weekend to maintain momentum in the competition for Europe’s top goal-getters. Ronaldo was forced to retake his penalty against Arsenal FC on Sunday after team-mates encroached into the box at Old Trafford, and he showed his class again by beating Jens Lehmann for a second time to equalise, with his 28th league goal nudging Manchester United FC ever closer to defending their English title as they won 2-1.
