Ruddy delighted after Norwich seal safety

Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy has expressed his delight after the club secured their Premier League status for another season.

A 4-0 victory over West Brom ensured Chris Hughton’s side will once again ply their trade in England’s top flight next season, an achievement which Ruddy likens to gaining promotion from the Championship.

“Staying in this league for Norwich City is a massive achievement. It’s as simple as that,” the former Everton keeper said.

“It was the same feeling when we got up from the Championship and the same feeling last year when we knew we were safe.”

In recent weeks Norwich have faced relegation-threatened duo Aston Villa and Wigan with Hughton’s side losing both.

However, with both sides losing in recent days, coupled with Norwich’s win, Ruddy and his team-mates can rest assured they are now safe from the drop.

“We just knew what we had to do. Since last week there’s been a lot of pressure and a lot of hype but Wigan losing in midweek helped us massively, ” he added.

“It’s always nice to have it in your own hands, not to have to rely on other teams’ results.

“The midweek Wigan result and Villa’s result on Saturday helped us massively and we knew what we had to do.

“It’s always been about us this season, no matter how we’ve played.

“We want to be in the Premier League on our own merit, not because other teams faltered.”
