Schalke still in the market

(GSM) – Schalke 04 boss Felix Magath is keen to spend more money as the club close in on the signing of Milan striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

The two clubs have been locked in negotiations and, after Milan wrapped up the loan signing of striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Saturday, the move has edged a step closer to completion.

Despite the signing of Raul and Christoph Metzelder from Real Madrid, the Bundesliga outfit have made their worst start to the league season in 23 years.

And Magath admits his side still needs strengthening with Dutchman Huntelaar, who has failed to settle at the San Siro, expected to team up with Raul, his former team-mate at Real Madrid.

“We will see where we can make a few changes, we have enough money,” said the former Bayern Munich coach, who could fork out up to €14million [£11.5million] for Huntelaar.

“I am worried that things could get worse, so I can not leave them as they are,” added Magath, whose side lost 2-1 to Hannover on Saturday.

Schalke are light in reinforcements after allowing Kevin Kuranyi, Heiko Westermann, Rafinha and Marcelo Bordon to leave this summer.

Another player believed to be of interest to Magath is Atletico Madrid playmaker Jose Manuel Jurado, whom the Schalke boss admitted was “a good player.”
