Slow and steady for Allegri

AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri says his team must continue to build after a 3-0 win over Palermo in the Serie A on Saturday.

The champions brushed aside Palermo with goals from Antonio Nocerino, Robinho and Antonio Cassano, earning them three much-needed points.

Allegri praised his players after the win, which was just their second of the season and moved them into 11th on the table.

“Everyone played a good game,” he said.

“We already set our stall in the first few minutes and tried to break through the middle, but then the quality of our individuals shone through and made the difference.”

“Tonight was an important game, all my players understood that the five points (we had accumulated) in the standings were too few and so had to start winning.”

“Maybe against Juve (in a 2-0 loss on October 2) we were tired but we also played poorly on a technical level.”

The 44-year-old reflected on the potential impact of their resounding win, and he is confident that the result will prove to act as a kick-start their season.

“Forgetting about the results of our rivals, it was important to get back to winning convincingly and now we must catch up as many points as possible to cancel out the difference between us and the sides at the top,” Allegri said.

“The three points will allow us to climb the rankings, but only slowly as the season is long. We must continue like this.”
