Barcelona have announced on their official website that Jonathan Soriano has completed his transfer to Salzburg.

The Catalan club have received 500,000 euros for the 26-year-old but the fee could yet rise to as much as one million euros.

Soriano, who passed a medical with Salzburg on Friday, has reportedly signed a contract until the end of the 2014-15 season with the Austrian club.

The former Espanyol striker was unable to earn a place in Barca’s first team despite topping the scoring charts with Barca B in the Segunda Division last season with 32 goals.

He was close to joining Benfica but preferred a move to Salzburg as the Portuguese club only wanted to sign him at the end of the season, when his Barca contract expired.
