Speed kills says Walcott

England should use their superior pace in attack to beat Spain at Wembley on Saturday, according to Theo Walcott.

The Arsenal winger has been re-establishing himself for both club and country this season after failing to make Fabio Capello’s 2010 World Cup squad, and is now a regular for both again following a string of strong performances over the last 18 months.

Speaking ahead of England’s clash with Spain, Walcott said his country’s pace could pose the world champions some problems.

“I haven’t really seen their defence attacked with so much pace and at this moment in time the England team has so much pace, hopefully we can upset them with that,” Walcott told Arsenal’s website.

“We know Spain will have a lot of the ball, we expect that from the top teams, so we need to be calm and patient and make sure there are no gaps in our team.”

“The way they play football is beautiful to watch. They just seem to blow teams away, they are classy, they look great on the ball.”

“And it’s not just about the way they play, they carry themselves very professionally off the pitch and that’s very important.”

“Going into tournaments they are not fazed by any team, they believe they can beat anyone and that’s the stage England want to get to.”
