Motherwell opened up a one-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League after playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Aberdeen.

Before Sunday’s match, Stuart McCall’s side had won two games in succession against Inverness CT and Dundee to share top spot but they found themselves behind six minutes into the game.

Aberdeen midfielder Gavin Rae hit the target on six minutes after pouncing on a loose ball in the box.

However, as the second half progressed, Motherwell found their rhythm and drew level three minutes before the break when Michael Higdon finished from close range.

The visitors continued from where they left off in the second half and took the lead on 48 minutes through Shaun Hutchinson, who unleashed a well-placed strike from outside the area.

Motherwell seemed to have all three points in the bag when Nicky Law added a third with eighth minutes remaining but Aberdeen staged a dramatic late comeback to earn their fourth consecutive draw.

Niall McGinn pulled a goal back five minutes from time for the hosts before Josh Magennis netted a last-gasp equaliser with virtually the last kick of the game at Pittodrie Stadium.
