Rangers moved to within two points of Celtic in the Scottish Premier League standings following a 6-0 rout of Motherwell at Ibrox.

Nikica Jelavic struck a hat-trick for Walter Smith’s side, while David Healy and Steven Naismith added goals alongside Shaun Hutchinson’s own-goal.

Rangers trail league-leading Celtic but have a game in hand over their Old Firm rivals.

Stephen Elliott netted a brace to help Hearts to a 2-0 away win over last-placed Hamilton Academical at New Douglas Park.

Goals either side of half-time from the Irishman meant Hearts remain eight points in arrears of Rangers.

Ten-man Hibernian held on to beat Kilmarnock 2-1 at Easter Road Stadium.

Akpo Sodje and Victor Palsson put the hosts two goals ahead, but Francis Dickoh’s dismissal in the 73rd minute and Jamie Hamill’s subsequent spot kick left the game finely balanced.

But 10th-placed Hibernian denied Kilmarnock an equaliser to record just their fifth win of the season.

St Mirren fought back to secure a 3-3 draw in an entertaining clash against Inverness CT at St Mirren Park.

Adam Rooney put the visitors ahead after six minutes, but two goals in two minutes saw St Mirren lead at the half-hour mark.

Aaron Doran responded in the 33rd minute for Inverness, before Rooney’s second in the 61st minute put the fifth-placed side ahead once again.

Not to be denied, St Mirren’s Darren McGregor earned the hosts a valuable point in the 74th minute to aid their relegation battle.

St Johnstone’s home fixture against Aberdeen was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
