Andrea Stramaccioni labelled Inter’s 3-0 win over Pescara ‘the first step’ as the Nerazzurri began the season in impressive fashion.

Goals from Wesley Sneijder, Diego Milito and Coutinho took Inter to the top of the table, with the result given extra gloss after arch-rivals Milan were beaten 1-0 by Sampdoria.

“We are happy, it is only the first step but we are happy,” Stramaccioni said after the game.

“A great team that took the lead 2-0 at half-time on a difficult pitch is a sign of strength.

“It was a good start but it is a long season ahead and we need to keep our feet on the ground.”
