AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been handed a three-match ban for violent conduct in Sunday’s goalless draw against Napoli.

Sports judge Gianpaolo Tosel inflicted the punishment after the Lega Calcio’s disciplinary panel convened on Monday to deliver their verdict.

Ibrahimovic received a red card in the second half of the match for slapping Salvatore Aronica in an off-the-ball incident.

After the game, Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri admitted that the Sweden international deserved to be sent off, although club CEO Adriano Galliani stressed there had been no violence involved in the gesture.

“I am reading catastrophic opinions on this, but there was no violence,” Galliani said.

” I also spotted Aronica’s gesture towards Antonio Nocerino that started the incident, but the referee did not.”

The former Barcelona striker will now miss Milan’s next three Serie A matches, against Udinese, Cesena and Juventus.
