(GSM) – Bayern München striker Luca Toni says he was disappointed to miss out on this summer’s World Cup although he didn’t expected to be included in Marcello Lippi’s squad.

The 33-year-old, who helped Italy win the 2006 World Cup, barely played in the first six months of this season at Bayern, though he almost helped Roma to the Scudetto after joining on loan in January.

“I never heard from Coach Lippi,” Toni told Chi magazine. “I am sad, as I will miss my teammates and the event.

“I believed right to the end, but to be honest, I’m not really surprised.”
