Former national team coach Amara Traore is suing the Senegal Football Federation (FSF) for wrongful termination.
The 44-year-old was dismissed from his post as national team coach after Senegal’s disastrous showing at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, where they failed to make it out of the group stage.
Traore told sports magazine Stade on Tuesday that there was no clause in his three-year contract that stipulates he could be fired if he failed to accomplish his objectives at the showpiece.
He said he had instructed his lawyer to take the case to court to obtain his two months unpaid salaries and damages for the quashing of his existing three-year deal.
“My contract with the FSF (Senegal football federation) is still valid for the next three years,” Traore said.
“I was never given any letter of contract termination. I was only notified verbally. And there is no clause in the contract that stipulates that I must leave if I don’t achieve my 2012 Africa Cup of Nations objective.”
“Secondly, the contract also states I must not abandon the team for another appointment in case of victory at the 2012 Afcon. Why are they firing now because we failed? I trust our justice and I believe I will win.”
