Veteran striker David Trezeguet is on the verge of completing his move to River Plate, the Argentine club have announced.

Released from his contract with Emirati club Bani Yas at the beginning of December, the 34-year-old has already spoken of his pleasure at returning to the country in which he was raised.

The National B club revealed on their official website on Monday that the former France international has already passed his physical checks and is expected to finalise his transfer imminently.

“He passed the medical examination and this week and will sign before returning to the UAE to close issues that remained pending in the Asian country,” the statement read.

River Plate have announced that Trezeguet – who played for Platense in Argentina as a youngster before taking his career to France – will be ready to start pre-season training on January 4, when he will also be presented to the press.

In a professional career spanning 17 years, the Rouen-born attacker is most remembered for his spells with Monaco and Juventus and the golden goal that sealed France the Euro 2000 crown.
